Question

Can anyone offer advice on thining hair and sisterlocks. I am really worried that my hair is going to look funny becuase I've pulled out my hair on accident when combing. IN additon, I had traditional locks that I pulled back in a ponytail when I was growing them out, now I have thinning hair. It's driving me crazy!

My natural journey

Hello everyone, I am sort of new to this. Well, I would like to start off saying I have enjoyed reading all the blogs about basically everything. I know many people have started blogs to talk about and show pictures of natural hair, and I totally appreciate many of your positive comments and questions.  My journey started about seven years ago. I had just started college and at the same time had given my life over to Jesus. I think learning about God and coming into his truth actually enabled me to re-evaluate the trash that we have all be spoon-fed all our lives about everything basically.  It allowed me to penetrate the deeper spiritual realms of our miseducation as women of color, as how we must reprogram our mental hard drives.  Well, for most of my college life,  I was wearing micro-braids. However, I felt so embarrassed going to the Korean own beauty supply store to buy hair. I hated that with a passion.  Then I realized something else about the weave culture: you feel powerless without your hair.  I felt like a super heroin without her power.  Without my braids I did not feel beautiful. I felt exposed and really ugly.  I thought really hard on this one. Why did I feel this way?   I really had to come to grips with the lies I was told and believed for years. Another thing was I was constantly asking other people for approval.  I let people who did not appreciate or didn't know about my culture tell me how they thought I should look.  I wanted to be me. So I did it. My friends as I slowing starting going natural. We wanted to be free to be ourselves and not have to perm and burn our hair straight just to look acceptable as they say.  Well, I have been natural for about seven years now. I have had traditional locks, those of which I recently took down to get sisterlocks.  I loved my dreads, but they were pulling out my hair on the side. I think going natural has really raised myself esteem and just enjoy being me.  I think it is important for women  of all races and colors to embrace their unique characteristics and not fell less pretty because the differ in physical features from people of other races.  So in a couple of weeks I will be "growing" sisterlocks (as I prefer this word to "install"). I am really excited, as I have been on this natural journey before, I know what to expect. Also, for the women who think that it is hard to them to get a job with a cultural hairstyle, please don't believe that lie. It is our right to wear our natural hair just like Muslim women wear their head and body coverings. If you are confident in who you are and competent in what you do, the sky is the limit. There will be some who will be so shallow as to focus on that, but it'll be their loss not yours.    Advice for sisters who want to go natural:
 1. Be yourself
2. Don't look to others for approval. You're an adult.
3. Don't let people control you or tell you how you should look, this includes the media.
4. Get books or magazines that support your decision
5. Feel good about who God made you be.  God made you the way you are for his purposes.
Pictures coming soon!
